Wellsville: ARC workers vote to unionize

WELLSVILLE—Workers at the Allegany Arc in Wellsville proudly announce that with an overwhelming majority, they are organizing to join CSEA.
The group officially filed on February 12 with the National Labor Relations Board, with the requisite majority of eligible workers and presented signed union authorization cards designating the Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA), Local 1000, AFSCME, AFL-CIO as the exclusive representative for the purposes of collective bargaining.

In a letter written to the Allegany Arc management announcing the action, the employees wrote, “We love our work and know that our individuals and their families rely upon us to be strong, professional caregivers. We are skilled labor, and deserve to be treated as such. We are organizing our union to have a voice on the job, to ensure equal enforcement of fair policies and to become partners in promoting and ensuring quality care for our individuals of Allegany Arc.”
The workers are united under the banner Allegany Strong.  Approximately 250 workers are in the bargaining unit and they provide care for individuals with disabilities.
